What is the BRC certificate and why is it such a grandee?

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) published its first-ever Global Standard for Food Safety in 98’. It was put together to help the food industry play along with the UK and EU’s food safety laws. In no time, it became an internationally recognized yardstick for the best practice in food quality, safety and responsibility.

It’s important to know that in the current day, most retailers across the UK, the US and Europe will only do business with suppliers that have two things:

I) A greenlighted audit

II) Accreditation by a BRC certification body

Also, keep in mind that the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety was the first standard to meet the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) guideline. What this says is that the world’s biggest retailers such as Aldi, Tesco and Walmart require the BRC certificate. By having this certificate, your consumers know they can trust the quality of your product. Since you’ve read this far, we’ll just drop the news that Cashew Coast has been the proud holder of a BRC certification with a Grade A (yes, it feels very much like school days again…) since February 2020. We were the first BRC certified and the only to have consistently renewed its BRC certificate over the last 3 years whilst keeping our A grade.
